Inclusive Transformation of Historical Heritage: An Evaluation of Adaptive Reuse – The Case of Tirilye Taş Mektep
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to introduce an inclusive conceptual evaluation framework through the case of Tirilye Taş Mektep by bridging cultural heritage preservation, adaptive reuse, and accessible tourism. Framed as a conceptual case evaluation within a holistic single-case study design under the qualitative paradigm, the study synthesizes theoretical literature with the historical and current spatial attributes of the structure to develop a five-dimensional conceptual framework. The evaluation reveals that transforming the structure into a memory center aligns with adaptive conservation principles, yet accessibility should transcend physical provisions like stair lifts to encompass sensory and cognitive communication. The study offers an interdisciplinary approach by transposing the architectural concept of adaptive reuse into the tourism context, presents the proposed framework as an evaluation model for similar heritage structures, and provides operational recommendations for decision-makers.
