Abstract

Gördes, which is located within the boundaries of the Inner West Anatolia Region of the Aegean Region, is the fifth largest district in terms of area of Manisa, to which it is administratively connected, and is located on the eastern side of the province. The district is adjacent to Sındırgı in the north, Salihli and Gölmarmara in the south, Akhisar in the west and Demirci in the east. Gördes, which is located within the Aegean Region and at the border of Central Anatolia Region, has the climatological characteristics of both regions. The average annual temperatures are 13 0C and the annual rainfall is 497 mm. The general climate characteristics of the Aegean Region and the studies conducted to date are available in the academic literature. However, these studies approach the Aegean Region from a holistic point of view or are related to our country in general. A detailed study on climate characteristics of Gördes has not been conducted until today. This study has been carried out in order to cover this gap. Knowing the climate characteristics of Gordes will enable the relations between climate-soil, climate-agriculture, climate-vegetation and climate-relief in this part of the Aegean Region. From the morphological structure to settlement, the climatic conditions affecting both the physical and human environment were evaluated and the results of Manisa and Gördes stations were utilized. For a better understanding of Gördes climate and for the parameters which do not have data in Gördes Meteorological Station, comparison stations were determined and their observation results were utilized.
