A Bibliometric Analysis of Political Participation Studies

Abstract

Political participation plays a fundamental role in evaluating the effectiveness of democratic
processes and the development of civic consciousness. This participation occurs not only through voting, but also through expressing opinions, organizing, and engaging in decision-making processes. Within the scope of this study, a bibliometric analysis of the political participation literature was conducted based on publications indexed in the Web of Science database. The analysis covers multiple dimensions, including annual trends in publication output, the most productive authors and institutions, journal distributions, keyword densities, and research foci. Visualizations generated using the Bibliometrix and VOSviewer packages reveal collaboration networks, prominent research themes, and existing knowledge gaps in the literature in detail. The findings clearly demonstrate global trends and research intensities in the field of political participation, while also providing a guiding foundation for future studies in both theoretical and methodological terms. In this way, the current state of the literature is made visible, offering researchers valuable insights into new focal areas and potential opportunities for collaboration.
