Development of the Marital Aptitude Scale and Determination of its Psychometric Properties
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main objective of this research is to develop a measurement tool to assess individuals' marital
disposition and to determine its psychometric properties. The scale items developed for this
research were administered to 427 adults over the age of 18. Of the study group, 289 (68%) were
18-22 years old, 113 (26%) were 23-25 years old, and 25 (6%) were 26 years and older. 285 (67%)
of the study group were women and 142 (33%) were men. The research was conducted in two
stages. In the first stage, the measurement tool was administered to 213 individuals for
Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The findings showed that the scale consisted of two factors
and that the total variance explained by all scale items was 55.61%. Confirmatory Factor Analysis
(CFA) was then applied to 214 individuals based on the factor structures obtained through EFA.
The obtained fit indices were observed to be quite high. The reliability values of the subdimensions
of the scale were calculated using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient; the reliability value
of the negative predisposition subscale was observed to be 0.89, and that of marriage expectation
was 0.87.
