The Review of Teachers’ Opinions About the Functions of Organizational Gossip

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out teachers' views on the function of organizational gossip in their schools. The study universe consists of 7600 teachers who served in Batman province during 2019-2020 educational year. For the study universe, 340 teachers were selected by a simple randomization (non-selective) method. The data of the study were obtained by the Organizational Gossip Scale compiled by Han and Dagli (2018). For statistical analysis of data, frequency and percentage, mean value, standard deviation, t test and variance test were used. The average of teachers' opinions on the dimensions of organizational gossip are detected as I partially agree on the awareness dimension, as I disagree on the relationship improvement dimension, and as I agree on the organizational impairment dimension. Among the subdimensions of organizational gossip, no significant difference was found in regards of teacher’s age on relationship improvement dimension. However, for the awareness dimension, significant differences were found in teachers' views according to age variables. In the dimension of organizational impairment, there were found to be significant differences in teachers' views on function of organizational gossip in comparison with their educational background. Graduate teachers were found to consider organizational gossip on organizational impairment dimension functionally.
